many of us that can send a note to the captain , Telling
them that we sure would like to have them along, That there
will be plenty of people willing to help out with looking
after the captain, In that way Mrs Hunt would be free to
enjoy her self get out with the other wives, I for one will

Dan and Mary. Nice also to see Chief Johnson. What a memory!
Remembered me after 40 years with out me hinting at my name.
I'm excited about the 2001 reunion being at sea. The price
for the cruise is certainly reasonable. Such a bargin my
wife has asked my daughter and son-in-law to go with us.
They'll be tickeled pink to meet my old friend from eons
ago. Really had a good time if it was very brief. We jsut
moved from the Seattle area in 98, so we had seen most of

incredible event!! Although I was not able to attend all the

others involved in serving our country. My family are
indebted to you all. May God Bless you. My uncle,Dwight G.Davis was killed on the DeHaven in
Feb,1943. Did anyone out there know him? Also, on the
casuality list they have his home address as St Louis, Mo.
and that is wrong. How can I get this corrected? I am a survivor of the USS Dehaven DD469 and would like
to correspond with other survivors. I went on board at Bath,
Maine and was a Seaman 1st ,later promoted to Torpdedoman
3rd. NIECE OF ARTHUR J BAXTER KILLED IN ACTION WHEN THE
ORIGINAL USS DEHAVEN WAS SUNK just found this site,i was abourd dehaven 1970-1972. just
wondered about any other crew members from then. If you were aboard DeHaven in Nov '65 returning from
Sasebo we were in a tremendous typhoon. I was aboard
Ingersoll DD-652. After 3 days of battling the storm the
decision was made to unrep for fuel -starboard side to- AT
NIGHT. Since this was the opposite side we had used and at
night in a storm I thought this was insane. DeHaven (it is
my recollection) was ahead of us. The seas were so rough
that I heard you lost about 50 feet of lifeline and aborted.
The sensible action I believe. The next morning we all
refueled in calm seas. Do you recall this incident? By the
way one of the first huge waves broke over our bridge and
sheared off the stowing pin on Mount 51 and stove in the
side! The mount was replaced when we returned to San Diego!
Bill Darusmont FTG3 My father was CO of the DeHaven in the late 1960's and

sites of other ships I served on. None of them compare. This
is without a doubt the best. Keep up the great work. Did you guys know you have earned medals for the service
of our country?? I just found out! Go to: http://www.history.navy.mil/medals/korea.htm and http://www.history.navy.mil/medals/ndsm.htm I called the VA and they are sending me an application to
get Dad's. The number is 1-800-827-1000 Be patient, there is
one of those stupid tapes on there...hint, use the phone
buttons..voice doesn't work. Neat! At age 80 last fall, I surrendered and bought an iMac.
Can't remember anything as frustrating, but it does keep my
mind off old Big A...arthritis, which pretty well confines
me to home. Not as bad as it may sound...several years back
we retrofitted and added on to he old homestead. Everything
is on one level and have a dandy big sunroom out back that
is ideal for reading. (Six or eight magazines, the latest
WWii books released by the Naval Institute). I have been
sort of confused by all the moving and changing going on in
the organization, but the latest RAVEN (when did it change
from "RAVIN'") tells me where to send my dues. So
I'll be sending along my check when I fire up my Quicken in
a couple of days (the only thing on the damned computer I
have been able to master!). I send along my best to any and
all plankowners extant, plus that splendid group of
shipmates I met in St Louis. And, of course, to Dan and
Mary! Clear sailin'...DEX grandaughter of Helen Sue Dehaven QM2 ON SHIP 1968 TO 1970 Excellent site! You have done a great job with your well
