William Houston Weaver 1928-2016

William Houston Weaver, 88, of Cross, S.C., U S. Navy veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, husband of Carol White Weaver, died Saturday, September 10, 2016, in VA Medical Center.

William was born May 20, 1928, in Lana, Mississippi, the son of Lenard Sylvester Weaver and Carrie Lee Moore Weaver.

He was a retired U.S. Navy Veteran, having served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He served aboard the USS DeHaven DD-727 during Korea as a Torpedoman 3rd Class. He was a member of the USS DeHaven Sailors Association as well as the Association of Sub Vets.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are three daughters - Paula Sanders of Sacramento, CA: Elaine Weaver of Kona, Hawaii; Debbie DuBois and her husband, Ron, of Deltona, FL; two sons - William H. Weaver II and his wife, Diane, of Baldhead, City, AZ; and Monte Weaver of Trenton, N.J.; a brother - Marcus Leon Weaver of Forest, MS: two sisters - Francis Williams of Shallowmar, FL; and Jewell Lorraine Murphy and her husband, Gus, of JACKSON, MS; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.

With great sadness I report on Saturday, September 10th, our shipmate and friend, Bill Weaver, a WWII Veteran, departed on Eternal Patrol. Bill  joined USSVI National and Charleston Base in 2010 and became a life member of both in 2013. He was also a member of the Holland Club. Bill enlisted in the Navy in 1945 and retired in 1967, beginning his career in the surface Navy, serving on DeHAVEN DD-727 and NEREUS AS-17. He qualified on CUSK SS-348 in 1956 and also served on BASS SS-251/SSK-2, WOODROW WILSON SSBN-624 and ODAX SS-484. Bill served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
