Carl W. Sheaffer 1925-2008Carl W. Sheaffer, 82, of Camp Hill, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Holy Spirit Hospital. Mr. Sheaffer was born in Shiremanstown, on September 12, 1925, the son of the late Clayton and Dorothy (Eckert) Sheaffer. Carl proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS DeHaven DD-727, and later drove truck from Detroit, MI to cities on the coast delivering Cadillacs to dealerships. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley (Stager) Sheaffer; 2 daughters, Bonnie Orner and her husband, Fred; and daughter, Sharon Jones. He is also survived by 3 granddaughters, Carol Shenk and her husband, Dennis, Karen Crawford and her husband, Erik, and Sharon Filipovich and her husband, Brad; 7 great grandchildren, and his beloved dog Mac. He is also survived by his nephews, James and Daniel Sheaffer. May his soul rest in Peace in Heaven. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Benjamin. His granddaughter, Sharon Filipovich, shared, "He was very proud of the time he spent in the Navy, especially while serving aboard USS DeHaven (DD-727). He delighted in telling his family the many stories of his life while aboard the DeHaven". He was a long time member of the DeHaven Sailors Association. Funeral services will be held in the Myers Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, at 2:30 p.m., on Tuesday, April 15th, with Reverend Frederick C. Bennett officiating. There will be a viewing Tuesday from 1:30-2:30 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery .
