Law L. Risken 1934-2018

Law Lawrence Risken, 84, passed away on November 24, 2018, in Olympia, Washington. His twin children, Jerry Risken and Sherry Risken Jackson were by his side. The family finds peace knowing their Dad is reunited with his beloved wife and two sons.

Law was born March 10, 1934, in Butte, Montana, to Law and Rose (McGee) Risken. He graduated from Butte Central High School and the University Of Montana. He met the love of his life Jean (Comba) Risken in Butte. They were married in 1960 and had four children.

He enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS DeHaven as a Sonar Technician. Law worked as a Rehabilitation Counselor at the Montana State Prison and the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla. He was promoted to Coordinator of Public Offenders Rehabilitation Program for Washington State, where he was in charge of rehabilitation services for Washington's four prisons, two forestry camps and several work-training release camps.

Law enjoyed spending time with family and watching his favorite football team, the University of Montana Grizzlies. Law was a longtime advocate for people with disabilities and a member of the Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI). He also served on the Governor's Board for Alcohol and Substance Abuse.

Law was an amazing man who made a positive impact on the people lucky enough to be in his life. Those who knew Law had the pleasure of his great sense of humor, which made him so unique. Law cared about what was happening in your life and was legitimately sincere with his interest in people's well-being.

Law is survived by his two children Jerry Risken and Sherry Risken Jackson, along with 18 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean Risken, sons Larry and Sean Risken, his parents, brother, John Hugh (Jack) Risken and sister, Marian (Mimi) Risken Coyne.
