Webmaster's
Personal Note:
I had the pleasure
of being a friend with Sam Penington since my involvement with the DeHaven
Sailors Association. I knew no one that was any more devoted to the cause
than Sam. He has been Vice-President since the first days of the
Association and took over the Presidency upon the death of Dan Wisner. Sam
promoted the Association in magazine ads and talked personally on the
phone to many new members as they applied for membership using his
"country gentleman" appeal. I really missed Sam at our last reunion as I
had never been to one without him. During his tenure as President we
talked often on the phone exchanging ideas. He will be sorely missed and
it is in his honor that we carry on the cause.
