LT Robert Oswald 1929-2018LTJG (Later LT) Robert Oswald 89 died in Fayetteville, Arkansas on November 26, 2018. He was an Assistant Engineering Officer on the USS DEHAVEN (1951-1953) and later Chief Engineer on the USS BALDUCK (APD 132). After graduating from the University of Tulsa with a BS in Geology, he was commissioned at Officer Candidate School, Newport, RI. With his return to civilian life, Bob was hired by Shell Oil Company. He retired after 34 years with the title of Senior Staff Minerals Geologist. Bob was a Freemason for over 60 years, a Tin Can Sailor, and band percussionist for many years. He married Annie Arnold of Long Beach, California in 1954 and together raised a family of three children: Bob (&Mary) of Durango, Colorado, Rebecca (& Hikmet) of Beaverton, Oregon, and Andy (& Shannon) of The Woodlands, Texas. Bob and Annie have lived in San Diego, California; Eureka, Kansas; Ardmore, Oklahoma; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (twice); Houston, Texas; Lakewood, Colorado; Cypress, Texas; before settling in Fayetteville, Arkansas. After retiring, Bob worked as a passenger conductor on two different railroads. He has fond memories of his brief Navy career and would do it over again, given the opportunity
