Roy C. Osborn 1925-2012

Roy C. Osborn, 87, of Muskegon died Aug. 28 during a visit to Dayton, Ohio. He was the husband of the former Ruth Wetmore.

A veteran of the United States Navy, Osborn served during World War II and retired as a Captain. Osborn served aboard the USS DeHaven DD-727 as part of her first crew as an FC3 and plank owner. Osborn was the creator and editor of the onboard newspaper Ravin' DeHaven a title still used today for our newsletter.

While aboard Osborn had a sheath knife engraved with his name and USS DeHaven DD-727. Osborn never knew what happened to the knife until it showed up recently on EBay. He was unable to purchase the knife as it went for a hefty price.

Osborn went on to a long Navy career and retired as a Navy Chaplain and rank of Captain.

In his retirement days, Roy enjoyed sailing his boat on near-by Lake Michigan. He was a long time member of the USS DeHaven Sailors Association.

Osborn was laid to rest in Muskegon, MI.
