Commander Joe Duke Edwards(USN, Ret.) 1933-2013.

He was born on June 4, 1933 to Joseph DePriest and Eleanor Faye Edwards, in Alamo, Tenn. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy, class of 1956, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 until his retirement in 1978. He was commanding officer of the USS DeHaven DD-727 in 1973.

He also earned a master's degree and worked as a CPA until his retirement in 2012. He was an active member of Bon Air Christian Church, serving in many capacities.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Dorothy; sons, Jeffrey and Gregory; brother, Gary; daughters-in-law, Kathy and Margaret; and grandchildren, Jessica, Erik, Martin and Rebecca. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Mark; and sister, Jeaneen Lile.

He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
