John F. Floyd, 64, of Fairmont, NC, died March 17, 1997 at his home.
He was born in Robeson County on July 17, 1932, the son of
the late Fulton O. and Lois Miller Floyd.
He was a retired mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He served
in the U.S. Navy from 1952 until 1955 on board the
USS DeHaven 727 during the Korean Conflict, and he
served as Quartermaster and Secretary of Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 5455.
He was a member of Fairmont First Baptist Church and served in many
areas of leadership. He was elected and ordained as
a deacon in 1969. He was also director of
discipleship training, Baptist brotherhood director, Sunday school
adult director and teacher, member of the sanctuary choir, sound system
technician, and member of several church committees
