Richard Deppe 1931-2003
Richard
“Dick” Deppe, age 71, of Monticello, died Wednesday, January 22, 2003
at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness. Funeral
services will be held 11:00 Saturday morning, January 25, 2003 at the
Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery,
with Military Honors. Friends may call from 3 until 8 Friday at the
Funeral Home.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Darla (Wes) Hokanson, Lisbon, Dana Murray
and Diane (David) Haag, both of Monticello, 7 grandchildren, Jay, Morgan
and Mandy Murray, Devan and Drew Haag, Kyle and Britt Hokanson, 2
brothers, Robert (Carol) Deppe, Ames, Jim (Lois) Deppe, Baldwin, 3
sisters, Lillian Pohlmann and Jeanne (Wilbert) Stein both of Keystone,
Arlene Fintel, Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his Parents, his
wife, Donna, and a son Donald. Richard Deppe was born July 25, 1931 at
Keystone, Iowa. He was the son of Edward and Nan Jordt, Deppe.
Dick received his education in the Keystone Schools. He worked as a
farm hand in the area before he enlisted in the United States Navy on
January 9, 1951. Dick served on the USS DEHAVEN during the Korean War. He
was Honorably Discharged from the Navy in November of 1954.
Richard Deppe and Donna VanNote were married September 28, 1957 at
Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The couple lived in Cedar Rapids where Dick worked at
Iowa Manufacturing. He then started his long career as a truck driver
working for Pratt and Jensen then Rowley Interstate. In 1964 he started
driving for Cuckler Buildings in Monticello and the family moved to
Monticello. He later drove for Dubuque Pack, Quaker Oats, Art Pape, Food
Liner and Aqua Glass. He retired from driving in the summer of 1999. Dick
was a member of the Monticello Drill Team, the American Legion and V.F.W.
and the Memorial Board. He also belonged to the USS DEHAVEN SAILORS
Association. Dick always enjoyed shooting fireworks for the city fireworks
display on the 4th of July. A memorial fund has been established.
