Philo
Heaton Allen
"Loving Father"
Philo Heaton Allen was born to Phillip Allen and Erma
Heaton December 2, 1928 in Kanab, Utah, where he was raised the third
of 14 children LaRene, Shirley, Philo, Vista, John,
Jesse, Israel, Leonard, Gideon, Don, Fred, Virginia, Ashley and Stephen.
He served an LDS mission
(Texas-Louisiana, 1949-1951) and in the Navy during the Korean conflict
(1952-1953) aboard the USS DeHaven DD-727.
He earned degrees in English and
Recreation from Brigham Young University, and married Lois Dixie McClellan
in the Manti temple on Dec. 19, 1958. The had six children: Phil (Judy),
Steven, Linda (Richard), Paul (Lori), Gayleen and Sherri (Alan).
He is survived by his wife and children, as well as 22
grandchildren and one great-grandson.
His parents, two sisters (Vesta
and Virginia), a grandson (Joshua Hapgood), and; son In-law (Travis
Gimmeson) preceded him in death.
He was employed as a teacher in three Utah school
districts and later by the Utah Transit Authority. Philo was known for his
artistic creativity, especially for sand paintings. He will be remembered
for his generosity both to friends and strangers, fun-filled family
outings, valiance in struggling with physical and mental challenges, and
his faith in God. His later years were filled with temple and missionary
service.
Philo died February 6, 2006, following a long illness. Funeral services
were held on Saturday, February 11 in the LDS Taylorsville 19th Ward
chapel.
